  1. The Geologists finish the report that the County Geologist requested

    January 27th, 2011

    Here is their report:

McCarthy Residence Soils & Geologic (21 Meg PDF – 103 pages)

This took a lot longer than we thought to produce – almost 2 months. The main difficulty was coordinating the three different geologists’ opinions into one report that they all could agree on.

Anyway, there aren’t any geology problems where we are building our house at Cave Landing, but there are geology problems that are fortunately distant from us. I already knew this before I went into the purchase agreement with Bob – as it was part of the due diligence that I conducted.

It is important to remember that virtually every house on the shoreline in SLO county is near a landslide – by definition. Most of the shoreline is cliffs that have been formed by landslides. Some houses are closer to the landslides than others. Cave Landing is much further away from landslides than most shoreline houses. Some houses down the street from Cave Landing are only a few feet away from landslides, and every time there is big surf or big rain the owners get really worried.
